The Enchanting Harnham House
Nestled within the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury, Harnham House stands as a testament to the timeless allure of vintage charm and exquisite detailing. Home to the creative visionary and Instagrammer Hannah, every corner of this enchanting cottage tells a story of curated elegance and beauty. From the soft hues of vintage pinks to the delicate fragrance of dried flowers, Harnham House beckons with its whimsical blend of nostalgia and sophistication.
Stepping into the cosy embrace of Harnham House, one is immediately transported to a world where time seems to stand still, and every object holds a tale waiting to be discovered. Antique furniture mingles seamlessly with car boot sale treasures, creating a tapestry of texture and character that is uniquely Hannah’s own. Against this backdrop, Lam Lighting ceiling and wall lights cast a gentle glow, illuminating the space with an inviting warmth.
We had the pleasure of visiting Hannah to unravel the secrets behind Harnham House’s ethereal charm and her affinity for Lam Lighting.
Harnham House exudes a sense of timeless beauty and whimsical charm. How do you believe your love for vintage aesthetics and antique finds has influenced the overall ambience of your home?
“We always look to the past to inspire our home, whether it be furniture and home accessories found in antique shops and thrift markets, or paint colours reminiscent of times gone by. These unique pieces not only add a nostalgic aesthetic, but also a familiarity and warmth that resonates so much with me. No matter what house I move to – whether it be a new build, 1950s or an old thatch – I will always carry elements of the past to decorate my home.”
As someone with a keen eye for detail and styling, how have you incorporated Lam Lighting’s fixtures into your home, and what role do they play in enhancing your curated spaces?
“The first piece that we had from Lam Lighting was the Petite Giselle Plug-In Pendant, which is situated in the kitchen with the vintage braided cable wrapped around a brass pole. I often play around with the styling of that corner and really enjoy creating different looks. The Petite Giselle, with its scallop detailing, perfectly complements seasonal flowers – it almost looks like a flower itself. There is also a vintage element to it, so it sits well amongst my antique finds! The Bergholt Small Keats wall lights sit either side of our bathroom mirror and fit perfectly in the space. Again, these have a traditional look with the brass ‘swan-neck’ style arm, so they work well with our other fixtures and fittings.”
Lam Lighting recently launched some new collections. What aspects of these collections resonate with your personal style? (This could be about the flush-fitting Giselle light that we put on the ceiling near your bookshelf, and/or the plug-in Bergholt Cottage wall light that we put by your bedside).
“The new collections are perfect for a cottage like mine, particularly the flush-fitting designs as our ceilings are quite low. The Flush-Fitting Giselle works very well in the living room, adding a point of interest and a cosy light source without obstructing the bookcase behind it. I really like the Bergholt Cottage Plug-In Wall Light, with its simple form and dainty size. The plug-in aspect is great because it provides a lovely bedside light solution without taking up space on the bedside table, and there’s no need to hardwire into the wall – just screw in the backplate and off you go!”
The use of antique furniture adds a sense of history and character to your home. How do you believe the combination of antique pieces and modern lighting fixtures creates a harmonious balance in your home?
“I love that every piece in my home has a story; I remember where and when I found it, and it has its own unique character. I like that the Lam Lighting designs also have their own character and identity, with collections inspired by the world of ballet, literature, and painters. The porcelain itself is also wonderfully tactile, with a delicate off-white hue that works in perfect harmony with the colour palettes throughout my home.”
What advice would you give to others looking to infuse their homes with a similar sense of vintage charm and curated elegance?
“Take time to enjoy mooching around antique shops and vintage fairs for inspiration and see what jumps out at you – there are always treasures to be found. Don’t be afraid to play around with styling – experiment by mixing patterns and layering colours. With modern pieces, choose items that will stand the test of time, both in style and quality.”
