A Symphony in Light – Rosie’s 17th Century Barn Conversion

As you approach this remarkable 17th century barn conversion nestled deep in the picturesque tranquillity of Shropshire, you are immediately drawn into a world shaped by serenity and thoughtful design. Rosie’s extensive renovation has transformed a once-working barn into a breathtaking family home – one that is both elegant and effortlessly warm..

Step through the threshold and a vast open-plan ground floor unfurls before you: a harmonious blend of kitchen, reception area, dining room, formal dining space and living zone. The architecture plays with volume and intimacy – soaring double-height ceilings contrast with snug, single-aspect corners, creating an immersive dynamic of openness and retreat.

“Just like jewellery enhances an outfit, lighting enhances a room. Pendant lights over a kitchen island are like statement earrings or a bold necklace – they draw the eye and give the space character. Lighting, like jewellery, also expresses the homeowner’s taste. Whether it’s modern and minimal, vintage and ornate, or rustic and warm, your choice in lighting tells a story, just like wearing a chunky bracelet vs. a delicate chain.”  Says Rosie

Throughout the home, Lam Lighting pieces are used not simply as functional elements, but as sculptural highlights. From pendant to wall light, each piece has been chosen with care to complement and elevate the existing bones of the space. Raw limewashed walls and exposed oak beams lend a softness and familiarity, a tactile narrative that Lam’s designs both respect and enhance.

Above the dining table, a trio of Gainsborough pendants hang with quiet drama. Their generous scale and delicate transparency command presence without obstructing the sightlines through the open-plan flow – a balancing act of form and lightness that is a hallmark of our design ethos.

Elsewhere, plug-in pendants and wall lights punctuate the scheme like thoughtful brushstrokes. A Cottage plug-in pendant serves as a quiet companion above a favourite reading chair, while Bergholt Cottage wall lights trace architectural lines, accenting alcoves and drawing the eye to curated artwork and subtle details.

“Your lighting designs are truly exceptional, each piece feels like a work of art that brings warmth, character, and elegance into a space. It’s clear that you understand how lighting is more than just functional; it’s the jewellery of the home, and your collections elevate interiors with both beauty and purpose. The craftsmanship, creativity, and attention to detail in your products set a new standard. Simply inspiring.” Says Rosie.

From an ancient oak beam above a window seat, a sculptural Giselle pendant hangs – kissed by daylight by day, casting a gentle glow by evening. Its porcelain form, elegant even when unlit, feels as much an artwork as it does a light source – proof that lighting, when done well, becomes part of the emotional and visual story of a space.

One of two staircases winds upwards, gently lit by a Cottage plug-in pendant and matching Bergholt Cottage wall lights, guiding the way to a traditional study and a viewing balcony that overlooks the living spaces below. At the desk, a Bronte pendant – with its soft dome and raw porcelain finish – casts a perfectly diffused pool of light, mirroring the textures of limewash and natural oak that echo throughout the scheme.

“One of the biggest challenges of lighting such an expansive space, is many areas have low ceilings. These can prove difficult when adding low hanging pendant lighting, such as dining areas (which are a must for a cosy aesthetic) Glass pendants allowed me to achieve this without blocking the eyeline. The glass finish also reflects natural daylight, helping to brighten those darker areas.” Says Rosie

What resonated with us most was Rosie’s approach: a designer who uses light not just to illuminate, but to sculpt, frame and celebrate. Each fitting has been chosen not merely to brighten a space, but to elevate it – enhancing the bones of the building while creating moments of stillness, curiosity and joy.
This is more than a barn conversion. It is a masterclass in how lighting can define and transform a space. A family home, yes – but also a deeply personal, poetic composition in wood, stone, and light.
