A Stylist’s Eye…
Gemma’s Minimalist Family Home
Beginning with a bungalow first built in the 1960s, Gemma, an Art Director and Fashion Stylist saw beyond its tired, dated shell and recognised the character within. With an instinctive stylist’s eye, she embraced its quirks, transforming the building into a serene family home where minimalism meets warmth.
As Gemma walked us through, her natural creativity shone in the effortless way Lam Lighting has been woven into the spaces. In the kitchen, two Boxted Cottage wall lights are placed high above the shelving, their geometric brackets echoing the sharp lines of the cabinetry. In raw antiqued brass and unglazed porcelain, they sit beautifully within a palette of marble and lime plaster. Over the marble island, Heathcliff pendants bring quiet drama, their softened silhouettes balancing functionality with elegance. The scheme is tied together with porcelain light switches, playfully mixing white powder-coated versions with brass toggles alongside antiqued raw brass, adding punctuation and depth.
The home flows with ease. From kitchen to dining room to living space, the atmosphere remains calm yet rich in texture. In the living room, a shaggy rug grounds sculptural furniture and Gemma’s own abstract artworks. Flanking the painting, two more Boxted Wall lights provide gentle rhythm and continuity beneath the restored timber ceiling, a nod to the home’s mid-century past.
A snug repeats the Boxted Cottage wall lights, reinforcing the home’s visual language, while the ground floor hallway is a showstopper. A sculptural lime-rendered staircase is paired with the Boxted Bronte wall light, its raw porcelain form echoing the architecture itself. Here, a porcelain and brass switch becomes like jewellery on a gown, a single note of quiet luxury against simplicity.
Gemma styled Boxted Giselle wall lights in the bedrooms and bathroom, pairing their opulent form with marble, stone, and ceramic textures. The result is understated indulgence, softened by natural materials.
Every detail has been thoughtfully curated for family life. The home feels practical yet deeply welcoming, minimalist, but never cold. Gemma has created: a home of beauty, comfort, and style, a true reflection of her creative spirit.
