Interior Design Trends

As we look forwards at the emerging trends we see interior design is turning towards the artisanal, the comforting, and the creative. Spaces are evolving to become more personal, reflecting not only a desire for beauty but also a need for function and connection. Drawing inspiration from our customers, their projects, and the wider design world, we’re diving into seven key interior trends…

Wooden and Free-standing Kitchens: Functionality Meets Warmth

The wooden, unfitted kitchen moves away from uniformity, embracing timeless individuality. This trend highlights the charm of freestanding furniture and open shelving, often crafted from rich, natural wood. By allowing each element – such as a standalone larder or a statement butcher’s block – to tell its own story, the space becomes fluid and flexible.

Zoe Smith (Instagram: @nestrestandrepeat) has embraced this aesthetic in her charming kitchen, which exudes style and personality.

Zoe says: “My natural instinct is to match the hues of different wood finishes. However, I felt it was important to lean into these different tones to achieve a characterful look. I’m drawn to natural tones and textures, so layering wood with complementary paint shades, tiles, and beautiful porcelain lighting at different levels creates an authentic look that is soft and easy to live with.”

The warmth and texture of wood create an inviting atmosphere, while unfitted layouts allow for bespoke configurations. It’s the antithesis of a cookie-cutter kitchen, perfect for homeowners seeking a space that evolves with their needs. Paired with soft lighting (Zoe has opted for the Giselle pendant and Bergholt Delphinium wall lights), a wooden kitchen feels modern yet timeless.

Property developer Bianca (Instagram: @chic_in_property shares): “I decided to leave the wood raw in my kitchen because I wanted the room to feel warm and cosy, even though it’s quite large. I used lots of wood throughout the home to bring an organic feel. The texture and tones of the raw wood add character, which was a conscious choice to ensure the house didn’t look too new or polished.”

Content creator Jessica Jackson (Instagram: @figtree.farm) has crafted a beautiful kitchen in her country cottage, featuring a large freestanding counter with room for six stools. The raw hardwood top enhances the space’s familiar charm. Jessica says: “We absolutely love our country kitchen. For us, it’s the perfect blend of warmth, charm, and timeless simplicity, beautifully finished with elegant lighting.”

The Use of Ceramics: Texture & Timelessness

Ceramics are being welcomed into our homes more and more, celebrated for their tactile qualities and handcrafted appeal. From sculptural vases to bespoke lighting, these pieces bring authenticity and artistry to interiors.

Photographer Nikki (Instagram: @etheringtonking) shares: “I feel innately drawn to ceramics. That such beautiful objects, tactile and useful are moulded essentially from the hewn dirt of our earth is deeply emotive to me. I was instinctively drawn to the Petite Fonteyn for these very reasons, its honesty & form melded effortlessly into its new surroundings.”

The appeal of ceramics lies in their versatility. They work equally well in minimalist and eclectic spaces. Porcelain, in particular, offers a refined, luminous quality that elevates any interior. Whether used as a statement pendant or a subtle accent, ceramics bring a sense of craftsmanship that feels both modern and timeless.

Content creator Joanne Fletcher (Instagram: @project_34_selfbuild) chose two Bronté pendants for either side of her bed, settling on them for their unique texture and tactile quality: “I love to play with textures rather than colour. We chose the Bronté pendant for its minimalist design, hand-crafted in beautiful porcelain. Its modern, organic shape captures the tone and feel throughout our home. I love the attention to detail, from the simplicity of the brand identity on the pendant to the brass elements and the twisted cord.”

Pink Neutrals: The Subtle Warmth of Raw Plaster

With neutral tones and pinks emerging as a favoured base palette. The earthy sophistication of raw plaster, along with shades of blush, terracotta, and dusty rose, creates a serene yet inviting ambience. These hues pair beautifully with natural materials like stone, wood, and porcelain.

Architect and founder of TAK Studio, Aleksandra Cannock, chose raw plaster walls throughout The Cherry Store Project – a centuries-old building converted into a unique home for a sustainability advisor.

Aleksandra comments: “Raw, unfinished plaster is a choice we see more clients opting for. Its natural texture adds visual interest, and the colour develops uniquely depending on the light and surroundings. Raw plaster is a sustainable choice that ages gracefully.”

The beauty of pink neutrals lies in their ability to soften a space without overpowering it. They complement minimalist designs while adding depth and warmth, making them perfect for walls, upholstery, and accessories.

Reah Booth, architect and owner of boutique holiday let Kirkgate Cottage, chose a rich yet dusty pink for the kitchen and dining area, creating a calming and stylish retreat for guests. Paired with antique brass accents and natural materials, this beautiful colour serves as the perfect backdrop in a modern country kitchen.

The Seating Nook: A Cosy Corner for Connection

In today’s fast-paced world, our homes serve as sanctuaries – places to relax and unwind. The dining/seating nook has emerged as a popular addition, offering practicality and indulgence. Nestled by a window, these cosy corners are ideal for morning coffee, intimate dinners, or relaxing with a book. Incorporating built-in benches, plush cushions, and natural light, they combine function with charm.

Uns says: “This bench seat was created as the perfect spot to read a book and enjoy the greenery of the Cotswolds countryside. The great thing about nooks is they offer an alternative zone in a kitchen. This one works especially hard as we included storage drawers within the bench seating for essential linens.”

A well-lit nook with handcrafted pendant lights or wall lights ensures the ambience is just right, no matter the time of day. They’re a design-forward way to utilize awkward corners while fostering moments of togetherness.

Content Creator Sophie (Instagram: @___wilds) has created the perfect dining nook in her kitchen, complete with a seating bench and table, whilst the Giselle pendant is perfectly poised as the central light.

Sophie explains, “Our little kitchen nook is my favourite spot for enjoying a cup of tea in peace. It’s where we all gravitate to, at the end of the day, to eat dinner and come together as a family.”

Wall Lights as an Alternative to Bedside Table Lamps

Wall lights are increasingly popular as the go-to choice for bedside lighting. They free up valuable surface space, allowing bedside tables to remain uncluttered and stylish.

Stylist and Blogger Jane Day (Instagram: @teawithruby) chose the Bergholt Cottage Wall Lights for her bedroom refresh:

I had wanted to change the lighting in my bedroom for a while and just couldn’t find what I was looking for then Lam Lighting launched the Bergholt Cottage Wall Lights which were the perfect fit. I don’t like bright ceiling lights in a bedroom and these give the most perfect glow, being plug-in it didn’t cause any mess or stress and frees up space on the bedside tables. They give my space a pared-back, simple look and blend with my decor so very well, it’s as if they have always been.”

Not only do wall lights offer practicality, but they also add a tailored look to bedrooms. Designs in Limoges porcelain provide a soft, diffused glow, ideal for reading or winding down. Their sculptural qualities bring an artistic touch, blurring the lines between function and form.

Digital Creator, Sam Reid (Instagram: @___thetownhouse), opted for the Flatford Keats Plug-In Wall Lights for the guest bedroom of her Regency townhouse. The lights add to the balance and symmetry of the room, whilst allowing for considered and simple styling of the petite bedside tables.

Scalloped Design: Playful Sophistication

Scalloped edging adds a whimsical yet refined touch to interiors. Whether on lighting, upholstery, rugs, or furniture, these soft curves are a nod to classic design with a contemporary twist.

This stylish kitchen by Angela at GeorgieRose Interior Design incorporates scallop tiles and the Millais pendant, whose fluted glass silhouette echoes the curves of the tiles perfectly.

Angela explains: “We chose these beautiful, neutral-toned scalloped tiles to add some visual interest to this kitchen design. They provide just the right amount of texture against the bespoke handmade cabinetry, finished in this soft pink tone.”

Scalloped details instantly and effortlessly create personality in a room. They balance playfulness with elegance, making them equally suited to traditional and modern spaces.

The ever-popular Giselle, one of our ballet-inspired designs, fits beautifully into this trend with its soft pleats crafted from Limoges porcelain. Lam Lighting Founder and Lighting Designer David Lam comments: “The scalloped design of our fluted shade, inspired by the delicate layers of a ballet tutu, brings a sense of softness and calm to interiors. Unlike the rigid vertical and horizontal lines often found in kitchens, the flowing, scalloped form is more organic, echoing the gentle curves of nature. This natural fluidity makes it inherently soothing, creating spaces that feel both harmonious and inviting.”

A Statement Hallway: First Impressions Matter

The hallway is being reimagined as a bold and welcoming introduction to the home. Statement lighting, dramatic paint colours, and eye-catching artwork transform this often-overlooked area into a design showcase.

Content Creator and Vintage Expert, Samantha Hansard (Instagram: @vintagecuratorinteriors) has used a wonderful palette of colour, texture and pattern to create a stunning entrance hall in her period home.

“The hallway is one of my favourite spaces in my home. I love the original features such as the stained glass and patterned Edwardian tile flooring but also I adore the green slides and oversized glass light. It’s impossible not to be happy to be home when you walk into this space.”

Digital Creator, Kerry Villers (Instagram: @kerryvillers), has created a truly warm and stylish welcome in her charming hallway, featuring patterned wallpaper and a statement tiled floor.

“It’s taken us years, lots of redecorating (and mistakes!) to get our hallway to where it is now, but I’m finally happy with it! We went for quite a statement wallpaper, with bold black and white tiles, so for the lighting, we wanted to go for something sleek and understated, which the Large Keats pendant is perfect for. I adore the natural feel of the materials and the simplicity of the design is what makes it so beautiful!”

By investing in the hallway, homeowners can create a space that sets the tone for the rest of the house. A statement pendant light can act as a centrepiece, while thoughtful details like mirrors and plants enhance the sense of space and light. The result is a hallway that feels as considered as any other room.

Content Creator, Nina Pethers (Instagram: @ninapethers) has recently renovated a 17th Century, Wiltshire lodge. This stunning hallway uses a wonderful palette of natural materials and muted colours to create an inviting and unique space. Nina says, “Our zinc-clad extension houses our gorgeous statement hallway, which we absolutely love. I knew I wanted lighting that was both simple and beautifully crafted, so I was thrilled to source the Bergholt Keats wall lights. They are absolutely perfect in every way for creating a calming and serene atmosphere in this space.”

These trends remind us that design is as much about feeling as it is about form. From the warmth of wood to the artistry of ceramics, they encourage us to create spaces that are not just beautiful, but deeply personal. At Lam Lighting, we’re proud to be part of this journey, offering handcrafted pieces that complement and enhance these trends in truly unique ways.
